What Is Art Revision

What is Art? Part I & II

Technique:

The materials I used throughout my art piece was actually better than I predicted from the get go. My original materials were just going to be markers and colored pencils, but I thought about taking it a step forward and trying paint. I honestly I didn’t want to use paint because it was going to be more work than I planned on doing, but since I finished early and had so much time left, I ended up using it productively and painting it. While I continued on using the paint I had ran into some trial and error problems because normally with the colored pencils and markers I would have the colors already but with the paint I was limited and I had to get creative and start mixing the colors so I can get to some of the original colors. When I mixed the colors together and applied it onto to the canvas the colored dried to be another color so I had to go through different layers of different colors. And from going through those layers of different colors I had to add more coats to the other solid and final colors so that my art piece would be evenly layered and coated. While I was experimenting them they eventually came out descent and stress less. I tried a new color everyday and eventually found the right one and I stuck with that because it was the closest I had gotten to the original color.

My art piece that I created compares to other professional art pieces by the quality and creativity. It’s hard to explain what art is because it’s too much of a broad subject to touch on. I clearly state that my piece is just as good as other artists work. Comparing to the other pieces I've seen, I would have to say that my piece is unique because I haven’t seen it as often as other art pieces. When I was experimenting with this specific genre I wasn’t really confident about it because it was my first time attempting to do so. But after believing in myself and trying it I finally got comfortable enough to keep going and to be passionate about it.

The techniques of brush stroking, coating, accuracy, speed and never hit until we started posting the blogs and I had to think about it more in depth. And I didn’t realize how many different techniques I had to apply to a simple canvas. But than again without those different techniques it wouldn’t be as god as it is now. During the whole process, it shows how putting thought into it can make a big difference because if I wouldn’t have taken my time and carefully went around the edges it wouldn’t look as sharp as it is now. Come to think about it when you actually pay attention to the little things such as, how much pressure your applying to the brush, how much paint you put on, or even which way your going to stroke the brush. Everything matters because it can conflict with the texture, costing or even the complexion of it.

Point of View:

The ultimate meaning of art to me is everything. Everywhere you go and walk and surround yourself with is art. You are a working piece of art in progress. You having a culture behind you, that’s art. You having two sides, an inner self and outer self is art. No one really gets to know the real you unless they ask and get to know you. All they do is judge you from the way you look on the outside. Art is exactly what you are. You have to think in and out of the box. There are two sides of my piece of art, and when I say two sides I literally mean two sides. When you have it up or down there’s a different image every time. It may appear to be as simple as it being two guys but they have feelings too. The look on their faces can explain a lot or even what they have on. My art expresses the mood of happiness, because both of the males are showing an expression of joyfulness as if they found their true loves in a blink of an eye. They seem as if they aren’t scared of anything and they can take what ever is being thrown at them. You can say a lot about these two gentlemen by just looking at them. I would have to say that thinking of this project and what I was going to do was the hardest because I was going to do music like always do. But since I do music all the time and it’ll always be there, that I would try something different. So I wanted to create an art piece, but not my regular art pieces. I wanted to do something that no one else would have thought of. Is something I’ve always wanted to try but never got around the chance to do so, and this was my chance to do so. And I’m pretty relived about my final choice and I’m very passionate about it.

“There is no such thing as non-art!”

Context and Connections:

In the beginning I looked at different art pieces to determine my definition of art, but over the time I realized that our whole life is art in progress. The different pieces I explored brought the true meaning of art and it cant get any simpler. There are no specific details for art. Your skin tone is art, even your blood, your blood can be rich or thin and loose, and that’s art. I mean if you really think about it the 4-year-old girl who just put paint all over a big canvas was automatically an artist. But than again any little kid can make an art piece like that because that’s what they do. So I cant see how you put a strict and precise meaning to a very broad thing. So when I judged my final piece on whether it was an art piece or not I instantly, with any hesitation judged it as an art piece. Not only that it was mine but the prestige details I put in and preciseness.

Reflection:

When we first got this project I thought it was going to be easy because I could simply make music like I’m used to and I know for a guaranteed fact that I can produce something proficient. But after putting some thought into, I finally concluded in producing an art project because it was something I have always wanted to do but I have never met the potential to do so. So when we got this project and since it is a possible portfolio piece I wanted go above and beyond my limits to exercise them. It was the art piece that I thought I could never produce until I tried and I did better than I expected.

I did several coats of paint so that my art piece has a more smooth and original look, rather than a half finished piece. I used a stroking technique with the paintbrush so there wouldn’t be as many different streaks and so it looked smoother. I also did different layers of pencil, than I went over it with marker, and finally I'm in the process of painting it. This helped so I wouldn’t mess up the first with the paint. I am also taking baby steps to get to the final product so I can be as precise and detailed as possible, so I don’t have and errors or mistakes.

Process:

From the beginning of this project with my first paper I conducted certain limitations and restrictions but now that I broaden my horizons and seen the truth. Art can mean so much in the littlest context. It hit me going through the different trial and errors. Going through this process really gave me the heads up on what it really is about. Its something I wont stop exploring because I have never been this passionate and engaged into art at all.

When this project was first introduced, it was difficult trying to figure out what I wanted to do because they had a multimedia project and several others. But what struck me was if I wanted to do something that’s easy to do or to challenge myself. I thought about it and I didn’t want to take the easy way out because everyone knows that I do music all the time but that’s not the only skill I have. Through this project I didn’t want to do something original so I chose to do a physical art piece because I haven’t produced a piece in a long time and it would be nice to try something new rather than sticking to the usual that I can do in a couple minutes. With this art piece it took time for me to develop my strokes and other characteristics in order for me to complete this task. Whenever I ran into a problem I always retraced my steps and did over again because it was the easiest way. And through this whole process there was never once where I just wanted to give up because I got frustrated or what not because I was actually enjoying it because it sharpened up my skills. And when it came time to get critiqued by a peer, it shocked me because I wasn’t expecting others to enjoy as well. I mean I’ve done better than this but my peers gave me even more confidence to finish it because they really liked it.

When I started to put my piece together it was challenging because I had done it before but I wanted to make it stand out even more. So what I did was I ran different patterns than tried solid fill color and it turned out way better. But the other was deciding which colors because there are so many to choose from. Overcoming it was interesting because all I did was ask a couple of people what colors and eventually I tried all of them and it looked perfect. From there I applied it to a big canvas instead of paper because it looks better bigger and it stands out with all the colors actually visualized. That was my process of overcoming the whole project period.

Warm-Up 4/15

9th-we created a website to upload our work onto and we also created a self portrait. from those specific art pieces i didnt really think i had potential to develop art or even produce pieces of art.

10th-we created photoshop images, a 3d animation, and a book on who we are. through out this year i really explored my innerself and the real artist that is actually in me. after the first years exerience i knew that i was able to create a magnificent piece especially if it was going to be about myself. with the book that we created in visual arts with matt, that project explored new things for me becauase it wass a big individual project to produce. like any other person who isnt that big on doing things by themselves , i didnt think i was going to complete it or at least make it descent to present to people. but ass the days go by of me producing this piece i began to pick everything up and go with the flow. we also did a kids alphabet book on apartheid.

11th-we created data2images, keynote in microscopic truth, tatoo, an exhibition pieces for the immigration story.

12th-

in my opinion when i first created this i didnt look at it as art. my first thought was that it was my shirt that i created, it never crossed my mind that i could create such a thing. and o generalize art is extremely hard because art it alot of things. it never dawned on me that fashion is art and music is as well. art is everywhere, its all around us. its even on our bodies. models who show alot of skin and model their poses is a form of art as well. everything in this world is art. i dont think art should even be judged, for the simple fact of it being everywhere we stand and who we are. there isn't anything that is not art. it's impossible. thats how good we have it, for everything to be art, it's amazing. the nastiest things such as your boogers can be art as well, because they have a unique shape and the color is and outstanding form of green, and dont forget to mention that the art has a scent to it. art is everywhere we walk, the way we breathe, everything.

  1. in the "Sculptural Seattle" she explores art in seattle on the artist Dale Chihuly. she goes around and explore his different pieces of art that is in seattle in local parks and malls, even in hotels. hen she got to each of the art pieces she started feeling cravings for being bright, buying bright clothing items and etc.
  2. they use the example of the art pieces such as , the color of it or the shape. or even exploring the art piece in a different lens, kind of like reading through the lines, but exploring through the art piece.
  3. i think that her beliefs and values all shape and exercise the fact of having an open mind. because for her to want to explore art some where else other than her home place is expanding her horizons. so as far as her values and beliefs go, she is expanding her horizons and is keeping an open mind about things.
  4. she did bring up a good thought about some of the art pieces leave her craving for something different every time. its weird how it makes some one have cravings but than again its understandable because chefs create art pieces when they plate food and make it look presentable so that some one would want to eat it.
  5. all the pieces that were in the article were pieces of art because she even gave a simple explanation about it being a piece of art.
  6. art is a piece of work that gets you thinking, even if its a negative comment such as "what in the world was the person thinking about when they did this?"

this picture is clearly someone expressing their love for shoes and created a picture of the different shoes. as much as it may seem simple the thought and creativity that was put into this piece. you can sit there and say that you can do that, but have you actually thought about doing it? me personally would consider this art because i like shoes just as much. this particular piece of art was made for an advertisement for a type of shoe brand and just so happen to turn it into a piece of art. for example, drawing a small dot on a blank canvas. that is art as well, because it can mean multiple things, such as, someone being the dot and them having all that space around them. or that could be how someone feels because the dot is all alone on because its all alone on the canvas.

Blog Post #4

For the final piece i just want to show that any one can do something as simple as creating a piece of art. I don't consider myself an artist because its not something i want to do. but now that i explored the definition of art even more, i actually am an artist because i do music and that is a form of art. I'm sure to most people when they here art they automatically think that is a painting or a drawing, but music and dancing and clothes are also forms art as well. As long as the piece of art sets a tone for you to think of when you look at it than it can be art.
My piece that i plan on doing is something that i don't usually do because i don't draw as often as others. My form of art that i do a lot is music and fashion because those are my main interests. so i am going to attempt to draw all my interests together into one piece. So I'm going to collaborate my culture, family, music and my future plans in stored for me in the future. majority of my art is going to be based off of some of my traditional items that we use in my samoan culture. This project is something I've never done before but its always been something i want to accomplish.
